An endless warp is wound around six thread-beams which are stuck in the ground; the lease is formed, the heddle set in, and a separating roll is slung into warp. The finished warp is strung between a warp-beam and a breast-beam which is fixed to the body of the weaver. A sword is used when weaving to tighten the weft and to increase the shed which is formed by the rising and falling of the heddle.

A bamboo stalk is split with the hewing-knife by slashing open the knots. After this it is torn open lengthwise and spread out flat. The board is then laid to dry across two girders and weighted with a chunk of wool.

Rice is put on the wooden mortar of a stamping-mill and then stamped for a while. The roughly husked rice is now winnowed and then stamped again after the pestle of the stamping-mill has been replaced by another a lager diameter.

The dance takes place on a fenced-in dance-floor in the centre of which is a slight rise. In rows of two, three, four or five, the girls form an inner circle whilst the men form a chain as the outer circle. The dance, in anti-clockwise direction, is led alternatively by a mouth-organ or lute player.

In full tribal dress and richly adorned with silver ornaments, seven Akha perform a ritual circular dance, moving in an anticlockwise direction, and accompanied by the dance-leader on a mouth organ. Girls of the Akha village, likewise adorned for dancing, are standing in the background.

Two threads with white seed pearls and two strings consisting of seven cotton threads each are strung on a bamboo bow in the manner of a warp. A red cotton thread is passed through the warp by hand. Thus a ribbon is made the edges of which are formed by the two rows of pearls. The end of the ribbon is finally decorated with a tassel of variously coloured cotton threads.

The blacksmith hammers a blade out of a piece of hoopiron and burns the thorn of it into a wooden handle. The edge of the knife is then roughly sharpened with another hewing-knife, and then finely polished on a grindstone.

The end loops of the lease in the fixed warp are cut, and the crossed warp threads alternately threaded into the heddles of the front and back shafts. The spinner holds a spinning roll in her left hand, fixes a few fibers into the hook of the spindle point and makes a short thread by rotating the spindle in her hand. After this, she rolls the spindle on her tight and lets it rotate freely on the thread. She continually draws out fibers and twists them by means of the rotating spindle. When the thread is spun it is wound on the spindle.
