Presentation of a Muslim Sufi ritual practiced by the Damascus branch of the Rifa'iyya Damascus, Syria. This order is related to its mystical founder, Sheikh Ahmad b. 'Ali al-Rifa `i (1118-1183), a chain of spiritual masters that legitimize the action of the current caliph. Dhikr is presented on Thursday evening. It brings together members of the Rifa'iyya who come together in a series of ritual procedures to remember the Divine, to glorify God and the last of the Prophets. Music, songs, incantations and gestures are implemented in the same mystical power that evokes the attributes of God and implore the intercession of the Prophet, his family and the saints. The different phases of Dhikr are presented in their real order: prayers and recitations of the Koran, musical concert punctuated by drums and cymbals, reading of Surah Ya Sin and extracts from a collection Rifa'a, Dhikr proper monitoring mortificatoires practices, intervention of a dervish "turner" in the tradition of Mawlawiyya finally closing prayer and blessing.
